Dr Murdoch is interested in how boards add value, and their contribution to strategy, purpose, and sustainability.
He brings a thorough and discreet approach to exploring board performance issues and how to address them successfully. He believes that a good board is not a complacent board, rather one that constantly evaluates itself and asks: “What, if anything, is currently getting in the way of the board operating as effectively as possible?” and ”How can this board add or create more value?”
Originally trained as a psychologist Vince is keenly interested in the impact of behaviours, processes and dynamics on board functioning. Most of the boards he has worked with in recent times have a heightened focus on accountability, transparency, leadership, the Board-MD relationship, the Board’s role in strategy, risk, culture, sustainability and stakeholder engagement.
He is also engaged by AICD to provide consulting advice within the Board Advisory service, and to facilitate board reviews using AICD’s GAT approach, as well as being accredited to run a number of Director Education programs.
Dr Murdoch has conducted over 30 comprehensive, independent external reviews and advised another 50 listed and unlisted boards in the last particularly turbulent 5 years. Over that time, he has also conducted Board briefings on behalf of AICD for Boards wanting to examine the implications of the Hayne Royal Commission and the APRA report into the CBA.
